What happens to my website if I cancel, and to my domain?
What happens to my website if I cancel? It depends entirely on the company and on who owns what, so find out before you sign. With some builders, the site stays behind and only the domain moves. With us, your site, your content and your domain are yours outright, and you take all of them with you (the one exception is a first draft you were refunded for, below). Here are our real terms, in plain words, and the questions to ask anyone else.

The three things to keep apart
When people say 'my website', they usually mean three different things, and each can have a different owner:
- The domain: your address on the web, registered with a registrar and renewed every year
- The site: the pages, the design, the words and the pictures
- The service: the hosting, the upkeep, the support, the portal or editor you use
How it works with website builders
Builders keep the site on their own platform. Wix says a Wix site cannot be moved to another host: it runs only on Wix's own servers (as of October 2026). When a Wix paid plan ends, the site goes back to a free Wix web address with Wix ads, and your own domain is disconnected from it (as of October 2026). A domain registered through Wix can be transferred away from Wix (as of October 2026).
Squarespace can export some of a site's content as a file for WordPress, but not every page type, and not the design or style settings (as of October 2026). So with a builder, plan on your domain moving with you and the site itself being rebuilt somewhere new.
What happens to my website if I cancel with MiniMorph Studios
Everything that is yours goes with you. Your website, meaning its files, design, words and pictures, is yours outright, not rented to you and not only while you pay us. Your content and your domain are yours too. One exception: if a plan payment is refunded under the first-draft guarantee (Agreement 2.15), that design is not handed over, downloaded or exported. Your own content (your text, photos and logos) and your domain stay yours in every case.
Once you approve a draft, or the first-draft guarantee ends, you can download a full copy of your website from your portal at any time, as ordinary files you or anyone else can put online. Until then you can see your draft in your portal, but not download it. You do not have to be leaving to ask for it. However your plan ends, on request we also provide an export of the site in a standard web format within 14 days.
If we are holding your domain, we release it to any registrar you choose within 14 days of you asking, whether or not anything is outstanding on your account. The one exception is a domain transfer rule: a newly registered domain usually cannot move to another registrar for its first 60 days, and then we move it within 14 days of the date it can.
What stops is the service: the hosting, the monthly care, your customer portal, the reports and the alerts. Our own software, the systems we use to build, host and support sites, stays ours, but nothing that is part of your website is held back.
Our terms: what cancelling costs
Our plans are 12-month agreements, billed monthly. After your first 12 months, nothing renews into another year: the plan continues month to month, and you can cancel at any time, for any reason, with no fee and no notice period. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for.
On the 12-month agreement you can also leave during the first 12 months. Because we build the site at the start and you pay for it gradually, leaving early means part of that build has not been paid for yet. That is what the Early Exit Amount covers: the build value on your plan, reduced for each full month you have completed, plus one month of your regular payment for the notice period and closing your account. It is never more than what is left on your plan, and we tell you the exact amount in writing before charging anything.
To cancel, use the cancellation control in your customer portal, or email us and say you want to cancel. Either is enough. We confirm in writing within two business days, and we never require a phone call or any extra step.
This is a plain summary of our Cancellation Policy and Website Service Agreement. Where they differ from this page, the agreement governs.
Questions to ask any website company before you sign
Whoever you choose, get written answers to these:
- Whose name is the domain registered in, and can I log in to it?
- If I leave, can I take a copy of the site, and in what form?
- What does it cost to leave early, and how is that worked out?
- Does anything renew automatically into a new term?
- How do I cancel: a button, an email, or a phone call?
- What happens to my email if it runs on the same domain?
A word about email
If your business email uses your domain, moving the domain carelessly can stop that email working for a while. That is the reason we move domains by hand rather than with a button: we check the email setup first and move things in the right order. Whoever you are leaving, ask them how they protect your email during a move.
Thinking about switching? Run your current site through our free audit first, so you know what is worth keeping. Our free audit scores your current site's speed, how it works on a phone and its search basics in about 30 seconds, and it costs nothing. Enter your website and email: your results show on the screen and we email you the full report.
Questions people ask
Do I own my website with MiniMorph Studios?
Yes. Your website, your content and your domain are yours outright. Once you approve a draft, or the first-draft guarantee ends, you can download a full copy of your site from your portal at any time. One exception: if a plan payment is refunded under the first-draft guarantee (Agreement 2.15), that design is not handed over, downloaded or exported. How long does it take to get my domain back?
If we are holding it, we release it to any registrar you choose within 14 days of you asking. A newly registered domain usually cannot move for its first 60 days; then we move it within 14 days of the date it can.
Is there a fee to cancel?
It depends on how you pay. 12-month agreement: After 12 months it goes month to month and you can cancel any time with no fee. Leaving in the first 12 months has an Early Exit Amount, never more than the payments you have left. Yearly, paid up front: No Early Exit Amount at any time. If you leave during the paid year, nothing more is due and the payment is not refunded, except under the first-draft guarantee: if you reject your revised draft, the whole up-front plan payment is refunded. Otherwise your plan runs to the end of the paid year. Month to month: Cancel any time with no fee; it ends at the end of the month you have paid for.
